Standing Committee on the Status of Women (FEWO) Highlights
On April 17, 2023, MP Anna Roberts took part in the Standing Committee on the Status of Women (FEWO) and discussed the lack of funding and support for victims of human trafficking, as well as the need to protect law enforcement officers who work to combat the issue.
MP Anna Roberts questioned Mr. Catenaccio, a witness who volunteered to appear before the committee and has knowledgeable experience from his time with the Canada Border Services Agency.
MP Anna Roberts asked Mr. Catenaccio about his opinion on seizing the assets of human trafficking perpetrators and directing those funds to help victims reintegrate into society. Mr. Catenaccio supported this idea, stating that it would be beneficial to use those funds directly to help victims.
Moreover, MP Anna Roberts also asked Mr. Catenaccio about his experience with being threatened as a police officer and how law enforcement can be protected. Mr. Catenaccio suggested removing personal information, such as home addresses, from public records and providing safe houses for victims to transition back into society with the help of previous victims/survivors.
MP Anna Roberts criticizes the Liberal Party of Canada’s soft-on-crime policies and calls for tougher crime policies to address the issue of human trafficking. MP Anna Roberts emphasizes the importance of taking a strong stance against human trafficking and protecting victims and law enforcement officers who work tirelessly to combat this problem.
