Petition: Protect Our Communities

Our King and Vaughan communities are shaken. Within just days, we have seen multiple homicides here in Vaughan, including the tragic murder of Abdul Aleem Farooqi, a devoted husband, father, and respected community leader, who was killed while protecting his family in their own home.

No family should ever feel unsafe in the place that is supposed to be their sanctuary. Yet, Canada’s broken bail system and weakened sentencing laws have allowed repeat violent offenders to walk free, putting our loved ones at risk.

We cannot wait any longer. I am calling on the Liberal government to take immediate action to strengthen our justice system and put the safety of Canadians first. I invite you to join me by signing the petition below.

We, the undersigned citizens and residents of Canada, draw the attention of the Federal Liberal Government to the following:

Whereas:

  • The community of King-Vaughan has been shaken by acts of senseless violence, including the recent murder of Abdul Aleem Farooqi in his own home while defending his family;

  • Canadians deserve to feel safe in their homes and neighbourhoods, yet violent crime is rising and repeat offenders are too often released back into our communities;

  • Bill C-5 weakened accountability by repealing mandatory jail time for serious violent and firearm offences;

  • Bill C-75 entrenched a catch-and-release bail system that prioritizes offenders’ rights over public safety, forcing judges to release accused offenders at the earliest opportunity;

  • Victims, families, and law-abiding citizens are paying the price for a justice system that no longer puts their safety first.

Therefore, we, the undersigned citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:

  • Repeal Bill C-5 and restore mandatory jail time for serious violent and firearm offences;

  • Repeal the bail provisions of Bill C-75 and replace them with measures that prioritize community safety;

  • Strengthen Canada’s Criminal Code to ensure stricter bail conditions for repeat violent offenders, particularly those charged with firearm offences, intimate partner violence, and other serious crimes;

  • Put victims and public safety ahead of criminals’ rights, ensuring real consequences for repeat offenders;

  • End the revolving door of catch-and-release by keeping violent criminals in jail and protecting Canadian families.
